Founded in 1873 by scholars from Oxford and Cambridge universities, Canterbury University moved to its current campus in Ilam in the 1970s, from what is now the Christchurch Arts centre precinct of heritage buildings. UC has a proud place in the history of Christchurch, and a vital role in the city’s future. This includes its role educating future leaders, as well as its academic and research activities.
