The Volunteer & Language programme is the ideal combination for those who want to immerse themselves in the culture and really get to know the people of the country they are visiting. The programme starts with a language course of 2 to 12 weeks, which is followed by a volunteer placement of either 4 weeks or 8 weeks. Placements are offered in the following fields: Social Work & Education; Environmental; Administration, Marketing & Cultural and Construction. Please note that volunteers cannot choose their specific field of work until they have submitted their booking and Cactus Volunteers Abroad has sent out their Volunteer Profile form.

All levels of Spanish and Portuguese are available.

Application process

Volunteers must be at least intermediate/advanced level to take the 6 week option (2 week language course + 4 week volunteering), and at least lower intermediate level to take the 7 week option (3 week language course + 4 week volunteering). All other programmes are available to beginners. Volunteers should apply at least eight weeks prior to their departure. To apply, complete an online application form.
