Askari Wilderness Conservation Programme offers the experience of a lifetime - the chance for volunteers to make a real contribution to conservation and wildlife research in Africa. Askari is based on 'Pidwa Wilderness' and volunteers become part of the full-time conservation team managing this benchmark wilderness reserve. Assistance is needed for all reserve activities and wildlife research. Projects vary throughout the year and include alien plant eradication, repair of eroded soils, anti-poaching patrols, veterinary dartings, game capture and release, prescribed burns and sleep outs in the bush, to name a few. These activities are combined with world class game viewing and monitoring of species, such as the elephant, lion, rhino, giraffe, leopard and zebra. Volunteers assist with the cheetah re-introduction and monitoring programme as well as ground breaking brown hyaena research and ground hornbill conservation.

Organization details

Askari needs volunteers to asssit with the hands on management and research being carried out on 'Pidwa Wilderness', a leading benchmark conservation reserve.
