Through its affiliation with large voluntary service networks, Volunteers For Peace exchanges more than a thousand volunteers each year to help communities meet local needs and work toward the goals of the United Nations Millennium Declaration. All projects arise from a grassroots, community based need and are developed through VFP's partner organizations around the world.
Short-term projects are generally 2 to 3 weeks long and involve being immersed in an international group of volunteers, medium-term projects have a set time frame and last 1 to 3 months, and long-term individual volunteer projects have flexible dates for 1 month up to 1 year. Project themes include: teaching English, environmental, building schools, preserving historical sites, assisting with festivals, organic farming and agriculture, assisting mentally or physically handicapped individuals, working with the elderly, animal conservation, and many more!
